  • I have a lot of articles to read, is there any way to arrange the files?

    We’ve just added a new Filter to our Library interface. Tap “All” to filter your documents by source, such as Input (anything copy and pasted or typed directly into NaturalReader), Webpage, Dropbox, OneDrive, and Google Drive. You can also filter for “Unread” documents.

  • What files are supported by NaturalReader?

    NaturalReader supports PDF, eBooks (.epub), Word documents (.doc and .docx), RTF, TXT, PowerPoint and will read any webpage. Please note that DRM-protected eBooks from iBooks, Kindle, Nook, or Adobe OverDrive cannot be opened with NaturalReader.

  • Is there any function to help people with poor vision?

    We have developed a new magnifying highlight function to help zoom in and follow along with small print. After opening a document, select the magnifying glass icon at the top of the page to enable the zoom view.

  • How to sort documents in NaturalReader?

    A Sort button has been added which will organize your files by date, title, or size. We’ve also added a Thumbnail view option to display the covers of eBook PDF and ePUB files to make finding your documents a little bit easier.

  • Why can’t NaturalReader read my PDF file?

    PDFs that are not properly tagged for accessibility cannot be accessed by speech synthesizers since there is no information embedded in the file for the program to properly interpret and read out. There are various types of PDF files, depending on where they originated. Digitally created PDFs are “accessible” because there is meta-information embedded within the file that allows a speech synthesizer like NaturalReader to extract the text and read it aloud.

    In contrast, “inaccessible PDFs,” “scanned PDFs,” or “image-only PDFs” are those that originated from something like a scanner or when image files are inserted into the PDF. These kinds of PDFs do not have the encoded meta-information of the text itself embedded in the file to allow a speech synthesizer to read it. It only shows the text as a snapshot-like image, with no way for a speech synthesizer to ‘know’ what characters are actually in the document. This is why you cannot edit certain PDF files, unlike text from word processor applications like MS Word. Speech synthesizers by themselves can only read direct text, not images of text.

    For documents that contain images, you would need the OCR (optical character recognition) feature to first convert it into a readable file. This feature is not available with NaturalReader Pro, but is available with select NaturalReader desktop versions. For more information, please visit our website at http://www.naturalreaders.com.

  • Can NaturalReader show the reading progress of the document?

    Yes, you can check the progress of any document through the Library interface.

  • How do I download the voices?

    Open a document and tap the speaker phone icon at the top of the screen.

    Select “ADD MORE VOICES” at the bottom of the screen to view all voices for the selected language.

    To change the language, tap “Language” on the top right. Tap the “ <” button on the top left to return to the previous screen to view the voices available for the newly selected language.

    You can also access the voice manager by access the Menu button on the top left of the Library screen. Select “Settings,” then “Manage My Voice”.

  • How to change the language?

    Access the voice manager through Menu > Settings > Manage my voice or open a document and select the speaker phone icon in the top right of the screen. Select ADD MORE VOICES > Language and select from the list.

  • How to add bookmark?

    While viewing a document, tap the Bookmark icon at the top right of the page to add the highlighted text to your bookmarks. You can view a list of your bookmarks by tapping the button on the bottom left while viewing a document.

  • How do I add documents to NaturalReader?

    From the Library screen, tap the “+” button at the top. From there, select from Dropbox, OneDrive, or Google Drive to load documents from your accounts. Select “Input” to manually type in or paste text for NaturalReader to read. Or, select “Webpage” to launch the built-in browser.

    You can also add email attachments to NaturalReader. When opening your mail from your device, tap the attachment and select “copy to NaturalReader”.

  • Why can’t I download any voices?

    This may be due to a slow internet connection. Please keep trying or try again later. Our voices are high quality so the file sizes are a little large and may take a little extra time to download.

  • Can batch converter save the text to mp3 format?

    Sorry, currently the batch converter can save to wav format only.

  • How do I access iBook and Kindle books?

    NaturalReader cannot read any DRM-protected eBooks. This includes eBooks from iBooks, Kindle, Nook, or Adobe OverDrive.

  • How can I download my eBooks onto my NaturalReader app?

    Please note that NaturalReader cannot read any DRM-protected eBooks. This includes eBooks from iBooks, Kindle, Nook, or Adobe OverDrive.

    For non DRM files, there are 2 options to get your eBooks onto your iPhone/iPad:

    Upload your eBook files to your Dropbox, OneDrive, or Google Drive account. Navigate to the NaturalReader Library screen and tap “+” to select from your desired remote disk. Enter your login information and select the document you wish to import. It will then be loaded onto your Library.

    Email the eBook document to yourself as an attachment. Using your iPhone/iPad, open your email. Tap and hold on the attachment file and the mail app will present you with options. Select “copy to NaturalReader” and the file will be sent to your NaturalReader Library.

  • Can NaturalReader read emails?

    Sorry, NaturalReader cannot read emails. But, you can easily download email attachments from your inbox straight to NaturalReader. When opening your mail from your device, tap the attachment and select “copy to NaturalReader”. The document can then be viewed from the Library.

  • I can’t open my eBooks in NaturalReader, please help.

    NaturalReader can only open eBooks with accessible text. If the eBook is a scanned filed or is protected, NaturalReader cannot open it. NaturalReader cannot read any DRM-protected eBooks. DRM (digital rights management) is put into place on certain files to prevent unauthorized distribution of digital media. This includes eBooks from iBooks, Kindle, Nook, or Adobe OverDrive.

  • How do I delete documents?

    From the Library screen, select “Edit” at the top right corner. You can then select one or multiple files to delete.

  • I can’t download voices because of a ‘server error’. How can I fix this?

    At times some customers may experience disruptions in the download due to busy server. Please try downloading the voice again or at a later time. If the problem persists, please try uninstalling and reinstalling the app.

    If you already own the Pro version, please follow these steps to restore:

    If you first downloaded NaturalReader free and then purchased the in-app upgrade to Pro, please ensure you are signed in as the Apple ID that made the original purchase. Reinstall NaturalReader free, tap “About Pro Version” then tap “Restore”.

    If you purchased the NaturalReader Pro app directly, please sign into the Apple ID that made the purchase and navigate to your Apple Store Account information. Search for NaturalReader in the list of purchases, and tap to restore.

  • I’ve paid for the Pro update, but nothing has changed.

    After purchasing the Pro version, the app should unlock automatically. If you are unable to access Pro after upgrading, please uninstall and reinstall the app:

    If you first downloaded NaturalReader free and then purchased the in-app upgrade to Pro, please ensure you are signed in as the Apple ID that made the original purchase. Reinstall NaturalReader free, tap “About Pro Version” then tap “Restore”. It should then switch to the paid version.

    If you purchased the NaturalReader Pro app directly, please sign into the Apple ID that made the purchase and navigate to your Apple Store Account information. Search for NaturalReader in the list of purchases, and tap to restore.

  • I’m trying to upload a document, but the app keeps crashing.

    Please double-check the file format to ensure it is compatible with NaturalReader. If it is a PDF causing the issue, it is likely because it contains images with inaccessible text. If the PDF is not embedded with accessible text for images, the app cannot access the proper information to read it.

    PDFs that are not properly tagged for accessibility cannot be accessed by speech synthesizers since there is no information embedded in the file for the program to properly interpret and read out. Speech synthesizers can only read text and not images that contain text. However our desktop version of the software comes equipped with OCR (optical character recognition), which is capable of importing such types of PDF files.

  • I’m trying to read a webpage, but it’s not working.

    The web browser feature is a built-in browser for easy web viewing. For security reasons, NaturalReader may not be able to access text from online registered accounts, especially those with paid subscriptions. Websites with more complex special encoding also may not be able to function with NaturalReader.
